Police have warned people not to board the viral “ghost ship” of cats as officials have rescued at least 40 furry creatures from it.
There are plenty of places around the world where animals rule the roost and can go about their business without humans. Raccoon Island is literally off the coast of Florida, and shouldn’t be confused with Resident Evil’s Raccoon City.
However, for the residents of Tacoma, Washington, they were greeted by a surprise on August 6, as a boat full of cats appeared anchored off Owen Beach.
The boat was immediately labeled as a “ghost ship,” seeing as it was being entirely staffed by the cats. It attracted plenty of attention from locals, as well as on social media, and now police to have stepped up their attempts to try to help.
Police respond to “ghost ship” full of cats
As per The News Tribune, the cats were initially rounded up and caged on August 6, and police had been trying to identify the boat’s owner. However, it seems they’ve been unable to do so.
“Over the course of six days, Tacoma Police Marine Services and Animal Control units have been meticulously working to safely remove dozens of cats from the 40-foot sailboat anchored off Owens Beach,” Tacoma PD said on Facebook.
“While we believe we have safely removed all of the cats from the boat, as any cat owner knows, cats are exceptionally good at hiding. Because there is always a possibility that a cat may remain onboard, our work isn’t quite finished. PLEASE DO NOT BOARD THE VESSEL unless you are the legal owner.”
